The daughter of legend Frank McGarvey is bringing the fight to beat pancreatic cancer to her dad's footballing heartland. Jenny McGarvey, who lost her dad to the , has taken to the east end near Parkhead to try and tackle the area’s survival rates which are the lowest in Scotland. The 37-year-old told the : “The east end is where dad was from and our family has always been linked to there.

I don’t know why the rates of survival are so bad in the east end, maybe it’s lifestyle, diet or lack of awareness. “So I’m taking part in this campaign because I want people to know what the symptoms are. Trust your gut instinct, don’t get fobbed off, don’t take no for an answer.

Early diagnosis could save your life. When dad was diagnosed with cancer, we were floored. I didn’t even know what pancreatic cancer was.

“By the time he found out it was too late so now I’m passionate about raising awareness of what it is and what the symptoms are.” Frank, 66, died on New Years Day last year. He played 245 times for Celtic, scoring 109 goals, and he is one of just 30 players in their history to have scored more than 100 times for the club.

In his final game for Celtic, he scored the winning goal six minutes from the end of the 1985 Scottish Cup Final. The former Queen of the South boss - who also played for St Mirren and Liverpool revealed his cancer diagnosis in October 2022 and appeared on the pitch at Parkhead before a game against Hibernian to thank fans for their supp.
