Island Fête is back! After a successful turnout in 2023 – with over 5,000 attendees – the West Island’s Caribbean food and arts festival is returning with two days of programming this weekend. “It’s just going to really be a celebration of Caribbean culture,” said Akilah Newton, founder of Overture with The Arts. “Bringing the community together with positive vibes for a great weekend.

” “The importance of these big community events is really just to unite the community,” said Newton. “Celebrate the different cultural communities that make up the West Island, make up Pierrefonds specifically.” “Pierrefonds is the most culturally diverse borough of the West Island with over 70 different cultural communities.

” From food vendors, BIPOC owned business, to performances — the family-friendly event is a fundraiser spearheaded by the non-profit: Overture with The Arts. A $5.00 donation is asked for all those 13 and up –- a way to raise funs to help young people pursue their passion in the performing arts.

“Island Fête is open to all,” said Newton. “We welcome all communities, all cultures, all religions, all sexual orientations.” “We really want to invite everybody to come out and enjoy the beauty that is the Caribbean and our culture.
