Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific is reportedly looking to sign a new deal for aircraft to renew its long-haul fleet. The company has said that it is looking at a variety of options, which could span from the Boeing 787 to the 777X. This follows a recent order from the airline to replace its medium-haul fleet, meaning this latest move is an expected follow-up to finalize the renewal of its entire fleet.

From the 787 to the 777X According to a Bloomberg report , Cathay Pacific hopes to place an order for its long-haul fleet next year. The company pledged to spend approximately HK$100 billion ($128 million) primarily on new planes. Alex McGowan, Chief Operations and Service Delivery Officer said: “The end of the decade is not far away.

We have got to place our orders now.” He added that the airline was reviewing several aircraft, ranging from the 787 to the 777-9, in a deal that would mark the “final component” of its fleet renewal. Cathay Pacific had planned to welcome two Boeing 777-9s in 2025.

Recent A330neo investment Any such deal would come as a win to Boeing, which has lost out on an order from Cathay Pacific against Airbus. Most recently in August, the carrier finalized an agreement for 30 Airbus A330-900neos . This was to renew its A330ceo fleet, reasoning that the more modern aircraft would serve to expand service on high-capacity regional routes while at the same time acting as a replacement for the older jets.

They would primarily be used on routes within Asia .
