Pune: The Vishrantwadi police on Wednesday filed a case of criminal intimidation and Arms Act violation against a security guard for brandishing his licensed airgun and threatening members of a rival faction of his employers during the gathering of a social organisation on August 12. The police have invoked the same charges against his two employers. Senior inspector Kanchan Jadhav of the Vishrantwadi police said, "The guard, staying in a locality off Sinhagad Road, hails from Pabe village in Velhe taluka.
He also does farming in Pabe. He had secured a firearm licence from the Pune Rural police for self-defence and farming three years ago." Jadhav said, "Two members of the social organisation employed him on August 1 as a personal security guard and took him to the gathering in anticipation of trouble between rival factions.
The guard's act of threatening and brandishing a firearm in public violates the terms and conditions of the firearm licence and the airgun was not meant for use outside the jurisdiction of the Pune Rural police." The officer said, "Along with the guard, the two employers also threatened the rival members. Some people in the gathering took a video of the incident and posted it on social media.
Our team received it on Tuesday and we started an inquiry into the matter. Our team identified the guard and his employers following a complaint lodged against them. We will soon write a report to the Pune Rural police on the licensed firearm and its misuse.
