Cruise culture is full of insider lingo , including the concept of a "pier runner." This is when people rush back to the ship last minute as gangways are raised and the ship is ready to sail after docking at a location. Sometimes "pier runners" are even left behind because of their failure to arrive on time.
Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald addressed the frequent problem on Facebook after a customer complained about being left behind.
