Pune: The caregiver of a 68-year-old garment trader from Thergaon has been booked for allegedly sedating the latter and looting gold jewellery, cash and a credit card, collectively worth Rs6.41 lakh, from his flat on Wednesday. The elderly man , who was alone when the theft occured, filed a complaint with the Wakad police on Thursday.

The suspect, who was also his driver, has been booked under sections 123 (causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offence) and 306 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Wakad police sub-inspector Venkat Pote told TOI that the suspect was working with the victim for the past eight years. “Except for his name, the complainant did not have any of his details,” Pote said.

According to the victim’s statement, “He gave the complainant his daily medicines for diabetes and blood pressure. The victim became unconscious after that,” said Pote. On regaining his senses he found his gold bracelet, chain and diamond pendant missing.

“Rs6,000 , his car keys, registration book, and his credit card were missing too,” Pote further said. When there was no response despite several calls, “, the man on Thursday lodged a complaint. We are looking for the suspect,” Pote added.
