Vadodara: A woman driver had a fright when her car slid into a sinkhole that emerged near it in Makarpura . Vadodara Municipal Corporation ( VMC ) officials, who were already working on a sinkhole nearby, rushed to the spot and ensured that the car did not fall further down the hole. A series of sinkholes have appeared on this road after the floods in the city.
An official said this is the sixth sinkhole to emerge on this stretch of road in recent times. VMC teams have been working on filling these in for quite some time now. VMC's in-charge additional city engineer, Rajesh Shimpi, said a drainage pipeline in the area is very old and worn out.
"Due to the heavy flow of water, the pipeline may have been damaged further during the recent rains and floods. Our teams have been working on the cave-ins," he said. An excavator present for work nearby was rushed to the car and pulled it out.
There was no major damage to the car. The sinkhole was then barricaded, and work will begin on it as well. For a long-term solution, the civic body is looking to replace the entire pipeline.
