His SUV drove over the half-demolished median right outside the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) office on Shankar Sheth Road. The existing part of the median does not have any reflectors or warning signs.
Poor street lights made it even more difficult for Majethia to spot it. Several accidents occurred at the same spot earlier, said residents of nearby areas, who helped Majethia get his car down. This stretch belonged to the public works department (PWD).
The govt issued a GR in November 2017 and handed over the responsibility of maintaining and repairing this road, along with 11 others of PWD passing through the city, to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) . Aniruddha Pawaskar, chief engineer, roads department, PMC, said, "We will do the needful. I will ask my engineer to visit the site and inspect it.
" TOI had highlighted the issue of poor medians and road signages causing accidents on the stretch, following which the authorities took temporary measures like painting reflectors or putting up barricades. Paint faded with time and the barricades have been removed. Majethia said, "My car rammed the median as I was trying to avoid grazing a bus overtaking me from the left to get to the bus stop.
I could not see the median on the right. The half-broken median has an ascending slo.
