A busy street in the heart of the city will be partially closed for at least a month due to roadworks. UK Power Networks will be installing new ducts for electricity cables on Church Street near North Laine, partially closing the road between November 4 and 30. The junction between Tichborne Street and Queens Road including the cycle lane will be closed during this period.
Church Street will be a two-way carriageway between Tichborne Street and Jubilee Street, however access to the Theatre Car Park will be maintained through Spring Gardens. Windsor Street will also become a two-way carriageway and closed at junction with Church Street. Work is expected to be conducted between 8am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday.
However, if work is needed outside of these hours the company will seek permission to do so. Traffic towards Queens Road will be diverted via Tichborne Street (Image: Ramy Abou-Setta / The Argus) Noise disruptions are expected as the works involve excavating trenches in the road to lay pipework. There will be two public drop-in sessions for any concerns or questions residents and business owners may have.
They will be held on October 22 and 24 from 3pm to 7pm at the Jubilee Library in Brighton. These works are part of UK Power Networks’ Fishersgate to Brighton Upgrade Project. For further information visit: https://www.
