A bus company says it will investigate after one of its vehicles smashed into a level crossing. The Stagecoach 700 bus hit level crossing gates near Ferring, causing traffic to build up in the area yesterday afternoon. The bus company said it is investigating the incident but that no injuries were reported by passengers or the driver.

A spokeswoman for Stagecoach said: "We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in an incident on August 15 at approximately 3.0pm at Ferring train gates. "There were no injuries to the passengers onboard or the driver.

"Safety is our absolute priority and we will carry out a full investigation into the circumstances as well as assisting police with their inquiries." The Argus understands that the incident did not affect train travel in the area. A spokesman for Sussex Police said that the force assisted British Transport Police and Network Rail with the incident.
