Here's some reassuring news for people worried that Target might not come to Grand Island: On Aug. 23, Target obtained a building permit from the city of Grand Island to build its store at 3400 W. 13th St.

On the permit, the cost of the project is listed at $17.5 million. This site will be the location, on the corner of 13th Street and Webb Road, of the new Target store as part of the Conestoga Marketplace.

The site used to house the Dillard's Department store. Woodsonia Real Estate of Elkhorn is transforming the old Conestoga Mall into Conestoga Marketplace. According to conestogamarketplace.

com , the Target store will total 150,000 square feet. The website says Conestoga Marketplace will be a "vibrant, mixed-use community" that includes "a 40,000-square-foot state-of-the-art theater and family entertainment offering, a five-story 150-room IHG branded hotel, a 275-unit luxury apartment, new to market restaurant concepts and various other retail and commercial pad sites." The estimated cost for the Conestoga Marketplace project is over a quarter of a billion dollars.
