A Bristol school has raised over £5,000 to fund a trip for asylum seeker and refugee pupils. In a recent letter to parents, Cotham School has stated that the money will be used for a week-long trip to a working farm in Devon. The school states that it would like to support these pupils to enjoy time with nature, where they will get three meals a day.

The initiative that has support from the school’s English as an Additional Language Team highlights the fact that many of their pupils are living in hotels and temporary accommodation where they cannot enjoy home cooked food due to a lack of kitchen facilities. They plan on sending a group of pupils to Shallowford Farm which works with young people and provides them with educational opportunities. The school states in its letter to parents and online fundraiser that it has recently been awarded with ‘school of sanctuary’ status as a result of its work with pupils from refugee backgrounds.
