When you think of the best nightlife spots around the world, there are certain cities that come to mind straight away: NYC, London , Rio de Janeiro. Australian cities are notably absent from the list. But apparently, according to the renowned publication Time Out , there's one Aussie spot that's great for nights out, which you might not have expected to see on the list.

They were asked to rate their city's nightlife scene on both its quality and affordability, as well as its range of experiences and venues.

While no Aussie cities made the list based on local rankings, the publication gave a special shout-out to Queensland's capital for its DJ scene. "Brisbane is continually re-inventing itself – there are always exciting new places to try whenever I'm back," Brisbane-born DJ and producer Young Franco told Time Out. The artist called out Black Bear Lodge as one of the city's best live music venues, calling it "an absolute staple for small up-and-coming bands to play".
