A busy road will be closed all week for resurfacing works. Bear Road in Brighton will be closed between the junction of Lewes Road and Bevendean Road from today, Monday, July 22, until Friday, July 26, while contractors completely resurface it. It will be closed each day from 7.

30am to 6pm. Diversions will be in place, including allowing two-way traffic on Newmarket Road which is normally a one-way street. Letters have been sent to residents in the areas affected to let them know about the work and updates on diversions, parking and access arrangements.

There are also signs in the area. The works are part of a programme by Brighton and Hove City Council to fix roads in Bevendean. After the Bear Road works, other Bevendean roads will be resurfaced including Upper Bevendean Avenue, Lower Bevendean Avenue and Heath Hill Avenue.

Councillor Trevor Muten, cabinet member for transport, parking and public realm said: “Fixing, maintaining and improving the city’s roads is one of our top priorities so I’m really pleased to see this work getting underway. “I’ve seen first-hand in recent weeks the excellent work being done to make the roads smoother and safer. It’s something I know residents feel very strongly about.

“I’d like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while the resurfacing is being done and surface extension treatments have been completed. I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished results.” READ MORE: Consultation on new A23 cycl.
