TV star Brendan Courtney has opened up on having a ‘brush with homelessness’ following a break-up while he was still based in London The fashion designer and TV presenter revealed he had a ‘very dramatic’ break-up which led him to checking into a hotel ‘with all I owned in the world’. Noting the hotel had been ‘massively expensive,’ Brendan revealed his card ‘maxed after two days’ and he was told he would have to check out. Speaking on Ireland AM , the RTÉ star recalled how he had told the story some years later and realised it was a literal ‘brush with homelessness.

’ ‘I rang my friend John, who is still one of my best friends, and pitched to him to rent his room. He was like: “I don’t know, we’d probably kill each other,” and I was like: “I’m kind of desperate. I need to live somewhere,”‘ he told presenters Tommy Bowe and Muireann O’Connell.

‘Only years later I thought, if I’d gone on the tear or just ignored it...

. I even remember thinking: “SoHo park is not that uncomfortable. It’s summer; I might be okay.

”‘ The star revealed that he ‘wasn’t fundamentally excluded’ because he would have returned to Ireland to his parents, but that would have entailed packing up his life and leaving his job as a late-night TV presenter for ITV.
