Plans to build “luxury” homes at a former poultry farm on the edge of Bosworth Battlefield have been criticised by councillors. Applicant Karl Maughan is seeking permission to demolish farm buildings and build a range of two-to five-bed homes on land at Mulberry Farm, in Stoke Golding , north of Hinckley . But members of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council’s plans committee deferred a decision on the scheme, saying the developer needed to “do better” after they heard there would be no affordable housing among the 25 homes proposed.

They called on him to “give [the council] the homes we need for the community”. According to planning policy, 10 of the finished homes should be provided as affordable housing . Further complaints were raised over the fact the developer has refused to pay the expected £290,000 financial contributions intended to offset the impact of the new homes on the local area.

Instead, the applicant has agreed to pay just £90,000. Members heard that an independent consultant had found it would not be financially "viable" for the scheme to provide any affordable housing or for the applicant to pay the full amount of funding requested by local services.
