LEE FOWLER wanted a response from his Flint Town United players from their Boxing Day thrashing to Connah’s Quay Nomads and he certainly got it on New Year’s Day. The Silkmen, who were undone 7-2 in disappointing fashion in their derby with Billy Paynter’s Nomads, responded in terrific fashion to gain a 2-0 triumph at home to Newtown. Flint boss Fowler told S4C’s Sgorio: “I just wanted a reaction from the Connah’s Quay game.
In truth, I think it looked, especially first half, two nervy teams who knew what the consequences of the result. But, ultimately, we fully deserved that three points.” Jake Phillips and Mikey Burke grabbed second half goals as Flint climbed out of the relegation zone and the focus has already switched to the final match ahead of the mid-season split.
“This game’s gone now. We’ve got to focus now on the Caernarfon game,” added Fowler, who has revealed the departure from the club of Florian Yonsian. “Hopefully now we can do some business in the window.
It only needs one or two. It’s a good group, young group, learning on the trade as they’re playing. “It’s going to be a rollercoaster for all the clubs involved in the bottom four.
