The annual UES/JTEKT/Tuff Torq Batteries, Oil, Paint, Antifreeze and Electronic Waste recycling event (BOPAE) will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m.

to 1 p.m. at JTEKT Plant 3, located at 5937 Commerce Boulevard in Morristown.

"This event seems to get bigger every year," said Walker Ashley, executive director of Keep Morristown-Hamblen Beautiful. "Last year, we diverted over 17 tons of community waste from the landfill, which is over six tons more than the previous year. "Every year that we have this BOPAE recycling event, we aim to reach more people and teach them about the power of responsible waste disposal and recycling,” Ashley said.

“In 2023, 380 vehicles participated in BOPAE, and we expect even more this year." This event is made possible through the partnership of Universal Environmental Services, JTEKT Automotive, and Tuff Torq Corporation, with the sponsorship of Morristown Iron & Metal, East Tennessee Iron & Metal, Quality Waste, Quest Resource Management Group/Instream Environmental, Burke-Ailey Construction, Symmco Tennessee, Strate Insurance Group, and Keep Morristown-Hamblen Beautiful. The BOPAE recycling event is for residential recycling only and provides a convenient opportunity to dispose and recycle items.

This year's event will also feature paper shredding services. Acceptable waste includes: Electronic wastes including: Hazardous materials and tires will not be accepted. This event, which serves hundreds of individuals, requires many volunt.
