A “new team” will be set up to oversee investment worth millions of pounds in some of Bolton’s biggest building projects. Bolton Council says that the specialist regeneration and economic development team will deal with schemes like the Moor Lane housing plan and the £20M plan for Farnworth. It also includes huge plans like the possible Ryder Cup standard golf course at Over Hulton and plans for housing at Church Wharf and Trinity Street in the town centre.

Council deputy leader Cllr Akhtar Zaman said: “Now is the perfect time to establish a new team to oversee our existing projects and to make sure we are making the most of the momentum behind Bolton’s regeneration. “The direct intervention of the council, by investing £100M to acquire and transform underused sites, has created confidence in the market and interest from private investors. ” The specialist team will include Bolton Council recruiting a major development service manager and an economic development manager to lead it. Part of the planned works they will help oversee will include the creation of the Mayoral Development Corporation for Bolton, which was announced by Andy Burnham earlier this year. This follows on from completed projects like the new food hal.
