The bodies of two porpoises were found next to a net on a North Wales beach. Dennis Jones came across what he said was a mum and her calf on the sand in Old Colwyn. They are next to a gill net on the beach.

Mr Jones speculated that the mammals had died due to the netting. A gill net is a single wall of netting anchored on the seabed to catch fish that swim into it. People posted messages expressing their sadness at the deaths with some condemning the use of these nets - which can used legally. But others said the fact the animals are waterside of the net and have no obvious net marks on them that this was not the cause of their deaths. A member of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue said members would be attending to remove the bodies and investigate the deaths.

They asked people to not move or disturb the bodies. Since 1988, the group has been involved in the rescue of marine wildlife. Cllr Cheryl Carlisle said she had informed fishery authorities.

She said: "Fisheries personnel will be there soon to investigate and remove the bodies. Thanks so much for everyone who has got in touch with me about t.
