The star died in hospital in Johannesburg, her family have announced. The South African star played Zawavari, a member of the Wakandan tribal council and former leader of the mining tribe in the hugely successful Marvel movie Black Panther and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever alongside Letitia Wright , Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett and the late Chadwick Boseman .
Her family of two sons and two daughters announced her passing in a statement on Instagram that said: “The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume. Connie Chiume, 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today on 6 August 2024. The Family asks for privacy during this difficult period.
The family will communicate further details.” Her son Nongelo gave a brief interview to Newzroom Afrika : “She was admitted for a medical procedure. She was recovering well but unfortunately today we then got the news of her passing.
