Biodiversity in the Sanjiangyuan area of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau has received better protection since the establishment of a national park there in 2021. Covering an area of 123,100 square kilometers, Sanjiangyuan National Park is home to the sources of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers, as well as numerous wild flora and fauna, such as snow leopards, Tibetan antelopes, Tibetan blue bears and Tibetan foxes. Currently, more than 17,000 park rangers have been hired to help monitor and protect the park's ecological integrity, according to the park's official website.

More importantly, the water resources and the vegetation cover in the park have been gradually improving, and the biodiversity is growing richer. For example, the population of the Tibetan antelope, a rare and endangered species, had recovered to more than 70,000 by the end of 2023..
