Pune: A motorcyclist died and pillion rider was injured after the bike collided head on with an autorickshaw while attempting to overtake a truck at Bhilarewadi near Katraj around 9.50pm on Sunday. Police identified the deceased as Shrikant Kadam (35), who was heading to his home at Dhayari at the time of accident.

The autorickshaw, which was carrying three passengers, turned on its side in the collision. The autorickshaw driver and complainant, Ashok Rathod(35) of Ambegaon Khurd, was also injured in the accident. The passengers in the auto, however, escaped uninjured.

The pillion rider was admitted to a hospital and was discharged on Monday, sub-inspector Mohan Deshmukh of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police said. "Kadam's motorcycle veered to the wrong side of the road as he tried to overtake the truck which put his own life and others' in danger. He failed to anticipate the autorickshaw coming from the opposite side which resulted in the collision," Deshmukh said.

"The deceased and his friend, who was riding pillion, were returning home after attending a function at Shindewadi," the officer said. "After analysis of the entire accident, we registered a case against the deceased," he said..
