Australian travellers have one stand-out pet peeve that annoys them when on holiday - delays. The unsurprising headache came out on top in a survey on the biggest holiday annoyances. Around a third of Aussies surveyed by Compare the Market said travel delays, such as flights were their biggest bugbear.

After that scams and pickpockets were a worry. The company said it's seen a rise in numbers of people claiming related to those, across Euro tourist hotspots such as Italy and France.

Also on the list of travel irritations were bad exchange rates, meaning holiday cash didn't go as far. Surprisingly, making up the top five was seeing other travellers being rude to people, such as airline staff and waiters. Compare the Market's Adrian Taylor said the results aren't surprising, given the effort Aussies put into organising an international trip.
