For the first time in the 59-year history of Sacramento State gymnastics, the Hornets will have a place to call home with their very own training facility. “It’s better than Christmas. iI’s years and years coming and more than we could ask for,” said Sacramento State’s Ruby Mach.

The new state-of-the-art training center is located on Folsom Blvd., which is within walking distance of campus. For the last decade, the Hornets have trained in Elk Grove, and before that, in Rancho Cordova.

“We can use that time to do homework or get treatment and even get to bed earlier,” said Sac State’s Kaya Houghton. The site is owned by University Enterprises, Inc., an auxiliary organization serving Sac State.

UEI donated over $2 million to build the training center for the team. “59 seasons and we are starting our 60 th season, so much effort and work put into this program,” said Head Coach Melissa Genovese. | MORE | Watch: Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone breaks world record again, defends hurdles gold The new facility features four high beams, two low beams, three full sets of bars, a foam pit, two vaults, Power Elite Floor, rod floor, tumbling strip, Tumbl Trak, two climbing ropes and conditioning equipment.
