Benedict Cumberbatch has been appointed the KOKO Foundation’s global ambassador for environmental advocacy. The KOKO Foundation is the charitable arm of London music venue KOKO, which has been based in Camden as an entertainment venue for 124 years. In the role, the Marvel and “Power of the Dog” star will focus on supporting the foundation’s efforts to make London greener and more sustainable as well as working on the organization’s own environmental projects.

To launch the partnership, Cumberbatch will host a special fundraising edition of his long-running theatrical event “Letters Live” at KOKO on Nov. 7. The event features well-known figures reading out historical or personal letters in front of a live audience.

The inaugural KOKO edition will include FKA Twigs with more special guests to be announced soon. Previous letter readers include Emma Watson, Olivia Coleman and Stephen Fry as well as Cumberbatch himself. Tickets for this year’s event go on sale from Oct.

3. “I am honoured to be a KOKO Foundation Ambassador with a special focus on the environment,” said Cumberbatch. “It’s been so inspiring to witness first-hand, the amazing impact that the Foundation has quietly had over the past few years, making real and lasting change in Camden.

I’m excited, inspired and committed to help bring awareness to the special work being done and continue to help improve the local area and scale the foundations work around the country, and the world.” The KOK.
