Accor has named Bodnant the most stunning, boasting year-round colour thanks to its collection of exotic plants from the Himalayas to the Andes. The Welsh destination has been revealed as the second best botanical garden in Europe, and the most beautiful garden overall.

In second place is Birmingham's botanical garden Winterbourne House. Holland's Keukenhof, a celebration of petals and blossoms, ranks third among the most beautiful gardens. Spanning 80 acres, in Conwy, Bodnant Garden is made up of a diverse range of gardens, including a formal Victorian garden, shrub-filled glades, meadows, woodlands and water gardens.

The Victorian east garden boasts Edwardian Italianate terraces decorated with rose beds, pools and pergola garden rooms. Entry to the gardens is £15 (prices vary for families and different age ranges) and includes access to enchanting woodland walks, tea rooms, a second-hand bookshop, café and toilet facilities. The beauty spot was established in 1874 by scientist, businessman and politician Henry Pochin, he and his family filled the garden with plants collected by global explorers such as Ernest Wilson, George Forrest and Harold Comber.

It is now run by the National Trust, and it welcomes visitors all year-round. From April, 1 to September, 30, dogs on shor.
