If you've spent hours perfecting your makeup for a big event or night out, the last thing you want is to constantly touch it up every time you glimpse yourself in the mirror. That's why many of us rely on our dependable setting sprays to keep everything in place for as long as possible. However, one makeup artist suggests that this could be a mistake.

Tiffany Lumpkin, a Washington, DC-based MUA with over 15 years of experience in everything from bridal looks to film and TV , including Netflix 's ' 13 Reasons Why ' and DC 's Wonder Woman 1984, has shared "the biggest mistake" she sees peopke make in their beauty routine. In a video that has racked up more than 225,000 likes, she claims many people don't understand the difference between a setting spray and a fixing spray. She clarified: "A lot of people get really mad when their setting spray doesn't work because I don't think people really understand what setting sprays do.

"Setting sprays are meant to hydrate the makeup. Setting sprays are meant to make the skin look like skin". She then showcased a range of popular and high-end sprays from brands like Milk, Charlotte Tilbury and Hourglass Cosmetics, praising them for providing a "skin-like finish".

"These products are meant to just hydrate the skin to rapidly oxidize the skin. The first ingredient is going to be water. These are amazing products, but they're not meant for longevity," she added.

"They're not waterproof. They're not water resistant. They're not sweatproof.
