Pune: A section of youngsters from Bangladesh studying in various Indian cities want violence in the neighbouring country to end following the recent political turmoil and “a systematic change” to come about. The Bangladeshi students in Pune, Vishakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Delhi, and other parts of India, said they wanted “a better system, and not just a better person” after Sheikh Hasina (76) on Monday resigned and fled Bangladesh following more than a month of demonstrations that began as protests against job quotas and swelled into a movement bringing the end of her 15-year tenure as PM. The students said they adopted a “wait-and-watch” stand following the recent developments in Bangladesh.
A youngster from Bangladesh, who studies in West Bengal but is currently in the neighbouring country, said, “I saw some people vandalising two houses and setting fire to vehicles on Monday. Both houses belonged to the Bangladesh Awami League. We have never seen violence like this before.
” The student, who spoke to TOI on the condition of anonymity, said, “Sheikh Hasina ruled like an autocrat. I am happy that she has resigned. However, there’s a lot of propaganda and fake news.
Dhaka still has a better society. But in a far-off rural area where I stay, some people vandalised the police station on Monday.” Abu Rayhan, a BBA student from Andhra University in Visakhapatnam, said, “We want a democratic Bangladesh, with a better education system and more jobs for .
