The BBC has released details of Vernon Kay 's salary for his new Radio 2 show - compared to his predecessor Ken Bruce. It shows that Vernon is on £320,000 compared to Ken's £390,000 - coming in at £60,000 a year less. The 48-year-old TV presenter replaced the broadcasting veteran, who stepped down from Radio 2 after 31 years.

It comes as Vernon's show has 6.9 million listeners, according to audience figures - 1.3 million fewer than Ken pulled in before he left the mid-morning slot.

Vernon's details are included in a list of salaries of its top stars for the last financial year - with Gary Lineker topping the list for the seventh year in a row. Match Of The Day host Lineker, 63, is the only star to earn over a million pounds. He took home £1.

35million, while Radio 2 breakfast DJ Zoe Ball was second on the rich list with a salary of £950,000 making her the highest-paid radio star. Famous faces no longer at the BBC also appear as the salaries cover the financial year from April 2023 until April 2024. It means Steve Wright , who died in February, is on the list as is Huw Edwards who left the BBC in April after a period off air since July last year.

He is thought to have been off work on full pay meaning he would have earned £475,000 in his last year at the corporation. A number of other big BBC stars are not on the list including the likes of Michael McIntyre, Paddy McGuinness and Claudia Winkleman. This is because salaries of stars paid via production companies are not pub.
