not great." Ben seemed exasperated by Carol's gloomy forecast, abruptly cutting her short: "Okay done, that's it. We don't need any more," reports the Express .

Sally showed a bit more empathy, lightly noting: "Not great. That's the technical term for it." Forecasters dread came true as Carol predicted "wet and windy weather", cautioning of significant "risk of flooding and disruption" looming over the UK.

Looking for signs of hope as summer started waning, Sally observed: "Now Carol, it's August and it does feel quite autumnal doesn't it?"
