BBC Breakfast: Naga Munchetty 'bereft' Olympics is over A beloved BBC Breakfast host felt compelled to apologise over a rather divisive segment this morning. The BBC show returned to screens on Sunday (August 18) - with Luxmy Gopal and Roger Johnson back at the helm. The pair were on hand to share the latest news from all around the globe.

One of the hot topics was the news of residents in South Tyneside claiming their area was being overrun with rats. “Sorry if you’re a bit squeamish about this because this one might make you squirm,” Luxmy said apologetically, introducing the news segment. During the segment, several residents were interviewed about their ordeal - with plenty blaming the build up of rubbish in the area.

One person even caught a rat that was 18 inches long. The presenter then added: "But it was, don’t judge me, I thought it was quite cute the way that one of them came out to sneak a chip," she admitted sheepishly. It comes after fellow BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty admitted she felt "bereft" and said she would "miss" the Olympics now it was over. READ MORE: BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty bids farewel.
