The BBC's reboot of the reality show Survivor has been cancelled after just one series amid viewer complaints that it was "boring". Joel Dommett, famed for The Masked Singer, hosted the series which was based on the successful international franchise. The show challenges participants to survive by creating their own food, water, shelter, and fire , while competing in various challenges to win rewards and immunity to prevent being voted off the island.

Despite a previous attempt by ITV , which ended after two series in 2001 and 2002, the BBC decided to revive the format with an October premiere last year. However, due to "poor ratings" and a barrage of negative feedback from viewers, the series has been axed once more. Recent reports suggest that BBC executives have discreetly dropped the survival series, even though they had opened applications for potential contestants for a new series.

A TV insider told the Mail: "It got just the same response as it did back in 2001 and 2002 on ITV - which is that audiences thought it was boring. It's not going into production this year." This news comes after the application process was abruptly halted in February, with a website update stating: "As things stand, we are not processing or taking any further applications at this time," reports the Express .
