KEOKUK – Barbara Jean Coovert, 95, of Keokuk, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at River Hills Village in Keokuk. She was born Aug.

12, 1929, in Keokuk, the daughter of Earl Gilpin and Lola Morrisey Gilpin. On May 15, 1948, Barbara was united in marriage with Clarence “June” Junior Coovert in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on Nov.

23, 2014. She is survived by two sons, David (Kathy) Coovert of Keokuk and Daniel (Joan) Coovert of Manhattan, Kansas; five grandchildren: Eric Coovert, Megan (Daniel) Hogan. Stephanie Coovert, Aaron (Sara) Coovert, and Alex (Denise) Coovert; nine great-grandchildren: Hannah, Luke, Owen, Kylee, Zayleigh, Ruairi, Nathan, Rachel, and Scarlett.

Other survivors include her sister Mary Symmonds of Keokuk. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Gilpin, Donald Gilpin, and Warren “Ike” Johnston. She was a member of Living Waters Assembly of God.

Some of Barbara’s favorite hobbies included making beautiful quilts, crocheting special projects, playing cards, and taking car rides around town to take in the sites. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Terry Massey officiating.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the family meeting with friends at that time.
