Many of us have tried our hand at baking bread from scratch at some point. With a plethora of dough creations to choose from, most first-timers opt for a simple white loaf - but even that can be tricky. Luckily, a baking expert shared a step-by-step guide on the "easiest way" to bake your own bread using just five common household ingredients.

On TikTok , via the Lets Eat UK blog (@lets_eat_uk), the baker describes his final product as "amazing" and something that will only "take 10 minutes of your time". He starts by adding 450g (3 cups) of bread flour to a mixing bowl, followed by one-and-a-half teaspoons each of cooking salt and fast-acting yeast. Next, he adds in and whisks one-and-a-half teaspoons of granulated sugar, before gradually adding 400ml (one-and-a-half cups) of warm water.

"Once fully incorporated, your dough should have a sticky consistency," he explains after vigorous whisking. He then covers the mixture with a tea towel to let it "proof" for two to three hours until it's doubled in size. "Start releasing the dough from the sides of the bowl," he advises.

"Then drizzle on some olive oil, fold the dough four times in total and then transfer it all into a buttered loaf tin." The baker also suggests letting the dough "proof for a further hour" - or until it has reached the top of the tin. Now, it's ready for the oven.
