Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray MUMBAI: Former chief minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday urged people to come out in support of the bandh on Saturday, called by the MVA against the Maharashtra government over sexual abuse of two nursery students at a private school in Thane's Badlapur town. Uddhav called chief minister Eknath Shinde "a pervert" for calling the Badlapur protest politically motivated. On Wednesday, CM Eknath Shinde had said that the protest was politically motivated and that people were brought from outside to participate in it.

While addressing a press conference, Uddhav said, "If he (CM) thinks that the incident (Badlapur incident) was political, it means he is of pervert mentality." On Tuesday, people came out protesting against the sexual assault of two toddlers in the school. They also stoped train services at Badlapur railway station.

Uddhav said, "This is an apolitical protest. People should come out to protest for the safety and security of women . We say that educating girls ensures progress, but they are not safe even in school.

People should strongly protest against the incident by coming out in support of the bandh.” On Wednesday, the police blocked internet services in Badlapur even as the sessions court in Kalyan extended the rape-accused Ankush Shinde's police custody till August 26. Meanwhile, some unknown persons vandalised the accused's house in Badlapur.

Uddhav Thackeray further emphasised that the protest.
