MUMBAI: Akshay Shinde, the man accused of sexually abusing two kindergarten students at a private school in Badlapur town in Maharashtra was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a Kalyan Court after his five-day police custody concluded on Monday. On Sunday, the special investigation team (SIT) investigating the case had questioned Akshay's parents and his younger brother for the second time and visited his home to gather additional evidence. Meanwhile, a team from the forensic lab visited the school for the second time to collect further evidence.

Two four-year-old girls were sexually abused at Badlapur on August 13. Their parents complained to the school authorities, but no action was taken. Subsequently, the parents of the girls approached the Badlapur police station to lodge a case around noon on August 16, but were made to wait for 12 hours.

Later, the police registered the FIR and arrested the accused. CM Eknath Shinde assured that the accused would be tried in a fast-track court. (The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault).
