Tuesday, August 13, 2024 Avelo Airlines announced that it plans to introduce a new flight route between Tweed-New Haven Airport and New Orleans, alongside an expansion of its existing service to Puerto Rico. This development is poised to significantly impact the airline industry, particularly in the northeastern United States, as well as on a broader scale internationally. The airline will commence its new nonstop route between Tweed-New Haven Airport and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Thursday, November 14.

This route will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. The strategic timing of these flights aims to cater to both business travelers and tourists, providing a convenient travel option that connects two culturally rich cities. This new connection between New Haven and New Orleans is expected to enhance cultural equity and economic opportunity, according to New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker.

The mayor emphasized that New Orleans is a vital destination due to its cultural significance and economic potential. By offering nonstop service, Avelo Airlines aims to strengthen existing ties between the two cities while also promoting new collaborations across various sectors, including arts, academia, and innovation. In addition to launching the New Orleans route, Avelo Airlines is set to increase its flight frequency to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Starting Friday, November 8, the airline will double its weekly flights to four, operating on Mondays, Wednesda.
