Paramount Game Studios and Saber Interactive are teaming to develop a new AAA video game based on the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” franchise. The currently untitled RPG will follow an all-new story which has been developed closely with Avatar Studios. Players will take on the role of an all-new, never-before-seen Avatar.
The game also serves as something of a prequel to the events of the franchise as it’s set thousands of years in the past – thus appearances of well-known characters from the original series seem unlikely. Players must master all four elements, and “engage in dynamic combat alongside companions, and experience the challenges and decisions that come with being the keeper of balance in the world”. Both “familiar and new elements to the world of Avatar” have been included.
Doug Rosen, SVP, Games and Emerging Media at Paramount says: “Saber Interactive has a proven track record in bringing IP-based games to life, and we are excited to co-fund this AAA title alongside them and let fans experience this world first-hand.” “Avatar: The Last Airbender” premiered in 2005 on Nickelodeon and became a massive critical and commercial success, and to this day remains one of the most well-regarded animated series in television history. It has spawned a book series and a sequel series, as well as live-action movie and TV adaptations.
