LUCKNOW: In the wee hours of Monday, Delhi bound Swatantrata Senani Express ’s (12561) loco-engine suffered failure, after it hit a wooden log lying on rail track between Ghazipur Ghat and Ghazipur City railway station. The log was dragged for nearly half-a-km, before the express came to a halt. The train was cruising at 100kmph, and even after emergency brakes, it could avoid the collision.

After the incident, junior engineer of railway, Nishant Kumar Singh lodged FIR at Sadar Kotwali of Ghazipur against an unknown person under railway act section 150 (offense of maliciously attempting to wreck or wrecking a train) and 153 (anyone who endangers the safety of a person traveling on a railway by an unlawful act) and Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) section 125 (Whoever does any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others) and 285(Danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation). After the incident, the express was delayed by two and a half hours and was hauled by another locomotive engine, as the wooden log had damaged the hosepipe (braking system for the train which operates on air pressure).
