Thiruvananthapuram: A day after four students, reportedly affiliated with SFI, assaulted a professor at SN College , Chempazhanthy, a decision was made on Sunday to suspend the students pending inquiry into the matter. The decision to suspend them was taken in a college council meeting. A final decision to terminate the students will be taken on the basis of the inquiry report.

In the meantime, Kazhakkoottam police have intensified the search for them after registering a case under non-bailable sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 132 for assaulting or using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty, 115 (2) for voluntarily causing hurt, 126 (2) for wrongful restraint, and 351 (2) for criminal intimidation. The associate professor of the chemistry department R Biju, 41, was attacked by the accused for warning them not to drive recklessly inside the campus. Students of Adithyan, Senthil, Sreejith, and Aswin Nath, are the accused in the case.

The four students travelling on a bike drove recklessly inside the campus where student vehicle entry is prohibited. The professor stopped them after other students reported the matter to him. Biju was on his way home in his car at the time of the incident.

Annoyed by his interference, the students verbally abused the professor threatened him, and physically assaulted him by kicking and hitting him. He was later hospitalized by other students. Another professor who was with Biju was dragged out of the car and attac.
