An Atlanta-based drug supplier who operated in Middle Georgia is facing more than 28 years for selling lethal amounts of fentanyl, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Middle District of Georgia said on Thursday.

Lagary Williams pleaded guilty on Oct. 30, 2023, for conspiring to distribute controlled substances. He was sentenced on Thursday in front of District Judge Marc Treadwell.

His 28-year prison term will be followed by five years of supervised release. According to the U.S.

Attorney’s office, Williams mocked the death of a man who overdosed on his fentanyl supply in a wiretapped phone call with a distributor. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations received information in July 2020 regarding dealers distributing fentanyl in Milledgeville. A man named Damon Hayes was identified as a multi-kilogram distributor of methamphetamine and powder and crack cocaine.

He bought drugs in bulk from Williams’ luxury high-rise apartment in downtown Atlanta, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Williams was recorded through wiretap laughing about a victim’s poisoning death from his fentanyl and being aware of the high strength of fentanyl he was selling, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Wiretaps recorded information on Sept. 10, 2021, that Hayes would be seeing Williams for a drug re-supply meeting. A federal search warrant from the Northern District of Georgia was used that day, which found Williams with a man named Brandon Ector.
