Most performances for the first two weekends of this new production of the Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick musical either sold out completely or came very close to selling out. One reason is that this production, directed by Sara Phoenix for TPAC Produces, takes a new approach to the physical production, emphasizing the joy and color that brighten the days as the residents of the Ukrainian town of Anatevka deal with the hardships of life. Another is the universality of the story, of family and faith, of the traditions of old and the impetuousness of youth, and how oppressive politics always wreak the most harm upon the lowliest of citizens.

Heller Shorts The Heller Theatre Company will present one of its longest-running projects, the Heller Shorts, in a new venue. “Heller Shorts: Kick Off Your Shorts!” will feature eight short plays by local writers, presented in the round in the performance space at Notion Espresso, 321 S.
