Rajkot: Have you ever heard of feet-painted Buddhist mandala art ? It's a unique form of expression where artists use only their feet to create intricate designs. This rare art form was showcased in an event where artists danced on a massive 30-by-30-foot canvas, painting solely with their feet. Professionals from various fields, including textile and fashion design, architecture, and students, participated in the event organized by the Kala Collective on September 15.
Kala Collective, a Rajkot-based group that advocates for the upliftment and recognition of artists, was founded by Naitik Trivedi and Smit Mehta. They revealed that the artwork will be submitted to the Limca Book of Records for recognition after Navratri. The steps were carefully choreographed and practiced in advance.
The group created the large canvas by stitching together smaller pieces and adding eight strips of masking tape to guide the design. What followed was described as a magical transformation. "This was a collective creation.
When a group comes together to make art, it becomes a shared expression — a tapestry woven with diverse energy and experiences," said Trivedi. Organizers explained that mandala art is traditionally used as a tool for meditation and spirituality, symbolizing detachment. Brahmi Patel, an interior design student and one of the participants, shared, "We used only two shades, red and yellow, to create the artwork.
We first designed it on a computer and then choreographed our steps.
