Pune: The Maharashtra state election office has reached out to the Election Commission of India (ECI) amid rising complaints from citizens about the difficulty to search for their names and polling booth information on the voter helpline app and requested that changes be introduced to address the issue ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Many citizens groups also communicated the same to district collectors, who passed on the information to the ECI. Election officials confirmed their technical team would work to resolve the problem.

A senior election official said that voters registered 10-12 years ago and before that often struggle to instantly find their names and polling booth information on the voter helpline app, since most of their electors photo identity cards were not linked to their mobile numbers. “ECI’s IT team is working on it and the problem should be addressed ahead of the polls hopefully,” he said. The state had urged ECI to make the voter name search functionality user-friendly on the app.

“We have conveyed the feedback from the ground to ECI. They have assured that their technical team will work on improving the app’s interface and search capabilities,” the official added. Citizen groups also echoed the need for a more seamless voter search experience, highlighting the inconvenience faced by many.

“It’s a common problem and we hope the ECI will address it soon, as it can significantly impact voter participation,” said citizen Ajay Mohi.
