An Antiques Roadshow guest was shocked to learn the true value of an unwanted gift she was given by a friend in the '60s. A crowd gathered as expert Hilary Kay prepared to evaluate a beautiful dress owned by a pensioner during the episode, filmed at Tewkesbury Abbey.

Kay started off by saying: "Looking at this dress, I can sort of picture the scene one misty morning, a woman walking through the abbey meadows. It's wonderful and is it a family heirloom?". The guest responded with a simple "No", causing Kay and the audience to burst into laughter.

She went on to explain: "It was given to me by a friend in the 1960s. And she gave it to me, because I just had a daughter and I think she thought she might be interested in [it] later on, to dress up in it." When asked if her daughter had ever tried it on, the guest revealed it had "never been touched" and that she'd "never seen it out", leaving Kay taken aback.

"You've never seen it out? This is the first time you've actually seen it -", the guest cut in: "Yes, seen it on show." "How do you think it looks?
