Residents have objected to plans to build a 69-bed care home near Bursledon Windmill because it is “too large” and could cause more traffic. Around 80 objections have been submitted to planning chiefs at Eastleigh Borough Council about the scheme. It is due to be built on around one hectare of former allotments and gardens on the border of the grade II*-listed windmill, which dates from 1741.

On site, there would be 34 car parking spaces, five of which would be for the cottages, as well as cycle parking. In her objection, resident Emma Church said that the care home would add more congestion and pollution and have a “negative impact” on the surrounding area and community.
Miss Church said: “The A27 is already severely congested during periods of the day and when the M27 is closed. A property of the size planned will cause even more congestion and add to the noise pollution of the area.” She added that the care home would impact an already “overwhelmed” sewage system and harm wildlife.
