A couple of days ago Ananya Panday was photographed at the NBT Utsav Awards 2024 in Mumbai. The actor wore a drape from the veteran designer’s yet-to-be-launched couture 2024 collection. The Pitch Patch sari, crafted in weightless organza, is the coming together of patchwork of archival floral and architectural prints from the Ritu Kumar archives. It is further tinted for a light vintage pastel look, while its translucence is speckled with fine aari and zardozi gold embroidery .
Panday isn’t the only star to wax eloquent about the couturier’s archival prints. In August, Vaani Kapoor stepped out in the Aster sari by Ri By Ritu Kumar. A celebration of European florals, it was a nod to time-honoured block prints from the brand’s vintage collection of blocks.
Kapoor’s drape, too, was brought to life with contemporary patchwork techniques and amplified with gold aari work to accentuate it. Where Kapoor paired her sari with a simple black blouse, Panday elevated her vintage sari by complementing it with a statement-making corset blouse in silk dupion. Thanks to its boning silhouette, it felt classic yet contemporary at once.
