NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah will on Tuesday launched four important initiatives aimed at promoting cyber safety and security, including starting a Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC) where major banks, financial intermediaries, payment aggregators, telecom/IT service providers and law enforcement agencies will come together on one platform for real-time action and seamless cooperation against financial crimes. “CFMC will serve as an example of ‘cooperative federalism’ in law enforcement,” the home ministry shared in a statement on Monday. The centre’s mission will be to save citizens’ money from being lost to financial frauds.

Shah, who will be addressing the first foundation day celebration of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) on Tuesday, will also dedicate the Samanvaya platform, a joint cybercrime investigation facilitation system, to the nation. CFMC will act as a one-stop portal for data repository of cybercrime, data sharing, crime mapping, data analytics and cooperation/coordination among the country’s law enforcement agencies (LEAs). Another key initiative that will be inaugurated by the home minister on I4C foundation day is the ‘cyber commandos program’.

The program envisages creation of special wing of trained cyber commandos in states and Union territories as well as in Central police organisations. It will help to counter threats to the country’s cyber security landscape, with the cyber commandos assisting the state/UT LE.
