The American Music Awards ushers in their 50th year with an anniversary special. Their 50th anniversary special airs tonight on CBS which is a first for the awards show . The AMAs since it's start in 1974 has always been on ABC and now it's making its debut on CBS.

The two-hour event will "serve as a tribute to the past 50 years and feature dazzling new performances, heartfelt artist interviews, legendary special guests, and exclusive never-before-seen footage from DCP’s [Dick Clark Productions] extensive archives, highlighting iconic moments that have defined the awards show and shaped pop culture." The special will see performances by Jennifer Hudson doing a tribute for the late music legend Whitney Houston, Gladys Knight singing Midnight Train to Georgia as she did on the first AMAs, Green Day singing their new hit track Dilemma and Kane Brown singing a mix of old and current songs to celebrate country. Their other performances by Mariah Carey , RAYE, Brad Paisley, Stray Kids, Nelly and more.

There will also be special appearances by Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Cedric the Entertainer and Samuel L. Jackson. The American Music Awards’ 50th Anniversary Special comes tonight on CBS and streams on Paramount+ at 8 p.
